History
Built as a papier mache factory in the first half of the nineteenth century, the current ornate facade was added in 1870, when the site became London's first licensed casino. The gaming tables were at the top of the grand staircase, where the restaurant is currently situated, and legend has it that a bordello could be found on the floors above!
Inspired by the Chicago Palm Restaurant in America, Christopher Gilmour opened Christopher's, The American Bar & Grill in December 1991 to serve good quality steaks and lobster, hitherto unable to be found in London.
It quickly became one of the capital's most opulent restaurants, resplendent over three floors, and though the concept has been adapted to take account of changing tastes and fashions, it is still faithful to its original theme.
